What Gears of War: E-Day’s October 5 Patch Fixed Before Launch
The October 5 E-Day update fixed Campaign join-in-progress credit, Act objectives, Horde Siege, Versus and online-session issues during early access, one day before the October 6 global release.

Gears of War: E-Day’s October 5 patch landed during early access, one day before the worldwide launch on October 6. The Coalition’s patch notes cover stability, online services, Campaign, Horde Siege, Versus and the UI. Several fixes address problems that could stop a match or objective from completing, not just visual polish.
Xbox says early access began October 1 for Premium Edition players and Game Pass subscribers with the Premium Upgrade. Its launch announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam, with cloud play through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. The October 5 notes therefore landed while early-access players were already playing, just ahead of the public launch.
Campaign join-in-progress fixes protect progression
The most consequential Campaign change addresses a join-in-progress issue that could give a player War Journal progress and Forge rewards earned before that player joined the existing campaign. The same notes list a separate fix for joiners who might miss expected Forge Discovery War Journal progress. The update does not say that progress previously recorded by an affected save was rolled back, so players should check their own journal and rewards rather than assume retroactive correction.
The patch also targets mission blockers in two chapters. In Act 2, Chapter 2, the objective could fail to update when players entered Allfather’s Plaza after completing other activities in the mission. In Act 4, Chapter 1, some side objectives could fail to start if players entered while introductory dialogue was playing. In Act 4, Chapter 2, the patch addresses one cause of the Power Station defense objective failing after visible enemies were defeated.
Other Campaign notes address a Heavy Gear that could appear without a Vulcan in the Black Raven Down side objective, and players remaining attached to a turret when a cinematic or gameplay moment began. These are separate fixes; the notes do not describe a Campaign progression reset or a change to how missions are ordered.

The online fixes address common ways a session can stall
The notes say some Versus Social matches could stay on “Waiting for players.” They also improve Xbox authentication when the system clock is far from the correct time and address the “Bilefrog-Kalona” error, which could sign out a split-screen player after suspend and resume. Separate online-session stability work covers the retrieval of session information.
Horde Siege receives two objective fixes: certain Secure objectives in Siege Blitz could fail to complete, and the extraction helicopter could fail to appear during a Downtown West Blitz mission. In Versus, a bomb could become stuck in its defusing state if the player was eliminated while starting the defuse. The patch changes that interaction as well.
The update also adjusts the size and appearance of Online Diagnostic text and addresses one cause of the UI repeatedly trying to claim the same Challenge Mail reward. The notes also list stability, performance, hardware-compatibility and reporting improvements, without frame-rate figures, a crash-rate comparison or a guarantee that every crash is resolved. Players should read “improvements” as the developer’s description of scope, not measured performance results.
For a player joining an online Campaign, the practical check is the saved War Journal and Forge progress after a new session. For Horde Siege or Versus, the listed fixes identify specific blockers to watch for. If an issue continues after the October 5 update, verify the installed game version and use the official support link in the patch notes. The post does not list one build number for every platform, so check the platform’s update history before treating an issue as unchanged.
