The Philadelphia Flyers are 0-5-2 after seven games, with two points and a minus-20 goal difference, and that is the longest winless start in the franchise's history. No Flyers team since the club entered the NHL in 1967-68 had gone seven games into a season without a win. The previous longest runs stopped at six games, in 2008-09 and 1999-2000, and both of those teams won their seventh game. Philadelphia has scored eight goals and allowed 28.

Two of the losses came in overtime, which is why the record reads 0-5-2 rather than 0-7-0. Pittsburgh scored twice on the power play and once shorthanded in the 7-0 opener. The Flyers have not scored more than two goals in a game, and they have scored exactly one in each of the last four. Those seven games were played in 12 days, including a back-to-back in Boston on October 10 and at home against Carolina on October 11, and three games in four days from October 8.

Eight goals, the fewest in any Flyers seven-game start

Eight goals is the lowest total the Flyers have scored through seven games of a season, and the minus-20 differential is the worst they have recorded at that point. The previous low was 10 goals, in 2013-14, when the team started 1-6-0. The previous worst differential was minus 17, in 2006-07.

Those comparisons come from the league's official club game logs, which cover 59 Flyers seasons. The 2004-05 season was not played, and it is the only one missing from the check.

Seven players have scored the eight goals, and only Matvei Michkov has more than one. No team in the league has scored fewer; Calgary also has eight, in five games. Only Vancouver has allowed more than Philadelphia's 28.

The last Flyers team to go six games without a win, in 2008-09, finished 44-27-11 with 99 points. The 2013-14 team that scored 10 goals in its first seven games finished 42-30-10 with 94. The 1999-2000 team, the other to go six games without a win, finished with 105 points, and the 2006-07 team, holder of the previous worst seven-game differential, finished 22-48-12 with 56.

Where the shots and the special teams stand

Philadelphia averages 20.0 shots on goal per game, the lowest of the 32 teams, and allows 35.1, the highest. Over seven games that is 140 shots for the Flyers and 246 against. The Flyers have been outshot in six of the seven games. The exception was in Ottawa on October 8, when they had 29 shots to the Senators' 26 and lost 2-1 anyway.

The power play has produced two goals and a conversion rate of 9.5 percent, the fifth-lowest in the league. Opponents have scored five power-play goals and one shorthanded goal against a penalty kill at 80.8 percent. Philadelphia has won 51.2 percent of its faceoffs.

Dan Vladar has started three games in goal and is 0-3-0 with a 5.08 goals-against average and an .857 save percentage. Joseph Woll has started four and is 0-2-2 at 2.95 and .914. One of the 28 goals against went into an empty net.

Three of the seven games were at home, where the Flyers have been outscored 14-3. In four road games the margin is 14-5.

Five of the seven games without a lead

The third period has been the hardest. Opponents have outscored Philadelphia 11-2 in the third, after 9-4 in the second and 6-2 in the first, and both overtime goals went against them. The Flyers have held a lead at some point in only two of the seven games, the overtime losses to New Jersey on October 1 and to Carolina on October 3.

Eleven games without a win, back to April 29

The last win came on April 29, when a 1-0 home victory over Pittsburgh closed out a first-round playoff series in six games. Philadelphia won that series 4-2, with wins of 3-2, 3-0 and 5-2 before the clincher, after finishing the 2025-26 regular season 43-27-12 for 98 points and third place in the Metropolitan Division.

Carolina swept the second round in four games, winning 3-0 and 3-2 in Raleigh and 4-1 and 3-2 in Philadelphia, and won the Stanley Cup by beating Vegas in six. Adding the seven games from this season, the run is 11 games without a win: nine in regulation and two in overtime. Carolina accounts for six of the 11. The two measures cover different spans: the seven-game start belongs to this season, and the 11-game run adds the four playoff losses from May.

Last in the Metropolitan, with five games scheduled

Two points leave the Flyers 31st of 32 in the league standings and last in the Metropolitan Division. Only Calgary, with five losses and no points, sits below them, and Philadelphia's two points are the fewest in the Eastern Conference. That is a points percentage of .143. The current streak is four losses, and the next five games are scheduled: Seattle at home on October 13, Detroit away on October 15, Ottawa at home on October 17, Colorado at home on October 19 and Buffalo away on October 21.

What the game logs do not explain

The game logs show dates and results without explaining why the Flyers have struggled. Whether the start runs past seven games is not yet known.
